We’ve been patiently waiting for MidiCi Neapolitan Pizza to open on K Street. We met Phil, the general manager, last year and he’d share updates about this new location but it took some time and we can finally say it’s opening. Starting August 7, 2019, you can visit MidiCi Neapolitan Pizza at 728 K St. We were pleasantly surprised that it was finally opening and after enjoying several items during the friends and family soft opening, we can proudly say we’ll be regulars.
Atmosphere + Vibe
Once you walk in, the staff is friendly and greet you immediately with a Ciao. We love great customer service, and you could tell they are training their staff well on this. Once in the dining room, the space is open—including an open kitchen—and the white walls and the greenery make it seem modern but with an Italian feel. It’s definitely contemporary as the music is very ambient/electronic even? They even paid attention to details in the bathroom, which we loved.
People Are The Best Thing That Can Happen To Anyone– Quote on the wall
The seating is simple, we sat at a high table for just the two of us but they had some booth type seating, shorter tables, and a lounge-like couch set-up. We felt the good vibes and the server, Danny, was helpful and friendly.
Food & Drinks
The food – we got a little bit of everything. Peter ordered a King Cong Brewing Beer and a Strawberries and Cream Italian Soda, which he enjoyed. I ordered the Italian Stallion Mule because Moscow Mules are my go to. I enjoyed it, a bit gingery but refreshing. For appetizers, we went with the meatballs, which were recommended and everyone enjoyed. They come in two, which was perfect with us and I liked them paired with a piece of the bread—tasty and easy to share. We also ordered the burrata with melon and prosciutto. I liked the mix of sweet and savory, its a good choice to share with one or two people.
For our main course, we wanted variety so Peter ordered the Truffle Calzone. I love truffle oil, so I really like it—there was truffle cream AND black truffle cheese. For even more variety, they let you make the pizzas half and half. I went with the Truffle & Prosciutto, which was reminded me of traditional Neapolitan style pizza and I liked but on the other half I got the Egg N’ Bacon and it was delicious. The mix of bacon, egg, and potato was so tasty, kind of like a breakfast pizza. I’d highly suggest it if you are a fan of a hearty meal.
Of course, we had to do the most so we made sure to have dessert as well. I ordered the Signature Nutella Calzone because I’m a big Nutella fan. I thought it was good but needed something—possibly a more sweet dough crust. Peter ordered the Cannoli Siciliani, which has cream and crushed walnuts. I thought it was good but a bit on the sweet side for me. Both items were best paired with the vanilla gelato. If you have room, I’d say leave room for gelato. It’s worth it.
Room For Improvement
We also want to be real, so a few things to note. While it’s still the first week, you can expect that, so be patient. When we came in for a table, the host staff mixed up our table with another group and the server forgot our waters but overall we thought it was good. Also, the staff is still learning everything on the menu so be realistic they may need to ask. For the food, we enjoyed all of the main dishes. On the dessert menu, we got the dessert calzone and it could use more Nutella or maybe some sugar. May also just be my preference, so try it. Also, don’t forget to ask for gelato with dessert, it’s worth the extra calories.
